The HTC One doesn’t support wireless charging, a feature that seems to have high demand among high-end mobile phone users. That lead to a big disappointment among Samsung Galaxy phone owners. The fact that the Samsung Galaxy S4 support wireless charging with a charging pad as an optional accessory.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 will support the Qi wireless charging standard. Qi is an interface standard that was developed by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) and allows power transfer over a distance of up to 4 cm (1.6 inches). You can read more about it on Wikipedia. Complying with the Qi wireless charging standard means that there will be accessories that made by third parties that will be compatible with the Samsung Galaxy S4 phone. There is a big effort to push QI to be the global standard in wireless charging. There are already 137 member organizations in 16 countries that make a big effort to make it happen.
The biggest news is that those wireless chargers will find its way into many public places like restaurants, where you can sit and eat and at the same time charge your phone. According to many news sources, McDonald’s is testing the wireless charging devices and hopefully we’ll see those chargers embedded into tablets in McDonald’s restaurants . Michigan area high school already deployed Qi wireless charging ‘hotspots’ .
QI competes against Powermat’s PMA. Powermat Technologies is a developer of wireless energy transfer solutions. According to online news resources, QI claims to have a lead on Powermat’s PMA. According to techweekeurope.co.uk article, Google and Starbucks will support the PMA Wireless charging technology.

Each mobile phone manufacturers will support one of those two standards and implement it in their mobile devices, and as you see, Samsung have chosen QI for its Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone. According to latest reports, HTC, Nokia, Motorola, Sony and LG are members of the Qi camp and that certainly puts WPC in a leading position.
